Summit Platforms Celebrates The Success of Four Newly Qualified Engineer Apprentices
Shaping Tomorrow’s Engineers
Four apprentices, three years of rigorous training, and one exceptional outcome: distinctions all around.
This milestone reflects the talent, resilience, and dedication of Connor, Ben, John, and Cameron, who achieved the highest possible grade in completing the ‘Level 3 Lift Truck and Powered Access Technician Apprenticeship’.
James Holloway, Summit Platforms’ National Engineering Manager, said; “They’ve all done an amazing job. All our apprentices on the same course at the same time accomplishing distinctions is a fantastic achievement, they are a credit to the business. It’s been a pleasure to see them grow into confident, capable engineers. We have high hopes for them and their career with Summit Platforms.”
“When selecting our apprentices, we always look for people who are motivated to stay the course and want to do well, and these apprentices certainly have.”
Future Investment
Summit Platforms’ investment in its apprenticeship programme reflects its commitment to delivering the most reliable and responsive customer service across the access rental industry.
By growing talent from within, the company is building a pipeline of skilled professionals who ensure its equipment is maintained to the highest standards while enhancing service delivery for customers.
“Our apprenticeships are designed to provide practical, real-world experience alongside technical learning,” said James Holloway.
“It’s a solid foundation for anyone looking to build a career in powered access at Summit Platforms. We are growing our own talent, so there’s every chance they will become our next technical leaders.”
Currently, eight apprentices are in training, demonstrating the company’s long-term commitment to nurturing future technical leaders.
As Summit Platforms continues to expand, it remains focused on offering clear career progression pathways and equipping its team to meet the evolving needs of the powered access industry.
Apprentice Life
On the programme, the apprentices immersed themselves in hands-on depot work while attending college every six weeks.
This blended approach equipped them with the skills and technical knowledge to excel in maintaining and repairing powered access and lift truck equipment.
The course included a variety of skills, from health and safety procedure applications to performing preventative maintenance and using diagnostic tools. Each tackled the challenge with determination and gained a comprehensive understanding of the craft.
Connor, one of Summit Platforms’ newly qualified engineers, said; “I’ve learned so much during the apprenticeship, especially about diagnosing faults and performing repairs. The hands-on work in the depot really helped everything click for me.”
Ben, another of Summit Platforms qualified engineering graduates said about the qualification; “The mix of practical and theory training was spot on. We worked on everything from hydraulics to electrical systems, and it’s great having the knowledge to put into practice in my depot.”
A National Contribution
Now fully qualified, the engineers will join their teams in Haydock, Bristol, Birmingham, and Portsmouth. Their expertise will contribute to maintaining Summit Platforms’ reputation for reliable, responsive service.
James Holloway said: “This is a great first step for these engineers and we’re proud of what they’ve achieved. It’s rewarding to see their hard work pay off, they will now continue to learn through additional training to ensure they all reach their individual career goals.”
