Summit Platforms opens its 10th Depot in the East Midlands

Powered access and telehandler rental specialist Summit Platforms has expanded its depot network with the opening of a new location covering the East of England.

The depot, in Ashby-De-La-Zouch, Leicestershire, close to the A42, will allow Summit Platforms to more-easily meet customer requirements in the East Midlands area – and support customers across eastern counties and conurbations, such as Peterborough.

The development takes the number of depots across Summit Platforms network to 10.

‘Hive of hire activity’

The new East Midlands depot is located on a 3.6 acre site with 37,300 ft2 of covered space which is shared with the group’s new business, Summit Power. It will also be home to an IPAF Approved Training Centre and a Summit Platforms refurbishment hub.

Summit Platforms Director Andy Parker said: “This is an exciting development for us as a group because the depot will be a base for Summit Platforms and our new business, Summit Power.

“This will make it a hive of hire activity, creating up to 50 new jobs as our plans for the operation progress and each phase of the planned development is completed.

“Demand in the East Midlands has been strong. Now we have an excellent base from which to deliver, in the highly responsive, consistent and customer-focussed way we’re known for.

“In addition, Summit Power will be operating from this location, offering our exclusively stage V generator fleet, battery energy storage systems, load banks, fuel management and electrical distribution and cabling.

“Our new East Midlands depot has excellent transport connections. Junction 23A of the M1 just seven miles away and there’s plenty of room to grow our operations from the site.”

Sustainable access solutions

Summit Platforms’ other depots are: Glasgow, Newcastle upon Tyne, Haydock, Wakefield, Birmingham, Bristol, Portsmouth, London East and London West.

The company plans to quickly grow its hire fleet based at the new depot to around 500 machines, including booms, scissor lifts, low-level access platforms and JCB telescopic handlers.

Working heights range from 4m to 44m. In line with Summit Platforms’ goal of being a leader in sustainable access solutions, most will provide low or zero emissions working, with a rapidly growing number of options to hire electric platforms.

Customers will also benefit from Summit Platforms’ proven ability to flexibly and efficiently mobilise MEWPs and telehandlers of any type and in any number for large and long-term projects.
